Many people are in denial when it comes to their hearing. According to dentist DC, during the 1982-83 dental school years, America produced 5,756 new dentists as said by the American Dental Association. Over the next 25 years, the US population increased by almost a third, but the number of dental school graduates decreased, falling to 4,700 by 2007.

Dental students receive their training at expensive university-run clinics, and these clinics are becoming more and more expensive to operate. As a result, several prestigious universities have abandoned dental instruction altogether.  Georgetown University in Washington, DC closed its 86-year-old dental school in 1987.

Consistent with many other professions, there are still approximately 700 more dentists entering the field then leaving it each year; however in the near future, baby boomer dentists will be retiring which will likely dramatically change the landscape of the dental profession.  A DC dental implants specialist, along with the American Association of Dental Schools, estimates that the number of practicing dentists will decline around the year 2014.

Some states can expect to be hit worse than others in the shortage of dentists and some states are already feeling the pinch from lack of dental care.  For instant Kansas has a dental shortage in 91 out of 105 of its counties. The median age of a dentist in a rural area is approximately 50 years of age and as they reach retirement their younger colleagues are more reluctant to take over.  Some states, such as Kansas, are tempting dental students into working in rural areas by promising to pay off their student loans.

However lately the Darling International company has decided that it needs to keep up with the times and that means introducing a different way of making candles and helping their plants to go eco-friendly.  They have discovered renewable fuel when the giant Honeywell approached Darling offering them the license technology to make “green diesel” fueled by using animal fats. For over 30 years biodiesel has been made by combining vegetable oil and diesel. This concoction gums up engines and performs poorly in colder weather.

The government – the U.S. Department of Energy – is now offering up to 80% of the cost to build renewable-fuel factories. The Darling company announced it as a merger with Valero energy to build a green diesel plant in Louisiana.

The company is looking into producing soy candles alongside its regular production of candles and soaps using a more earth friendly production process.  The project projected completion date is September 2011 because the Darling International company is in no big hurry to create the plant even though the government is footing most of the bill.  As one executive put it, “there are always going to be restaurants that need to rid themselves of old grease and slaughterhouses that need to rid themselves of animal carcasses.  I don’t see us going out of business anytime soon.”

And one might think with the economy the way it is and people wanting ‘green’ candles, the Darling International would be slowly going out of business; however, they boosted sales last year by 25 percent to $807 million, with profits getting $55 million to rank number 13 on the 2009 Investing Magazine fastest-growing companies list.

High-priced gold is here to stay and jewelry manufacturers, retailers and consumers are coping in various ways, despite the recession.

The World Gold Council USA  (WGC) put out a statement that said that the reality is people are now dealing with a much higher-priced gold market, and so low-priced entry-level gold jewelry – like $30 earrings or a $40 chain – is gone for the foreseeable future.

According to the WGC, the desire for gold jewelry is not going away.  A 2008 WGC survey of U.S. consumers found they preferred higher karat gold – 14k and 18k – even when the prices rose significantly.  People want the best gold jewelry they can buy and will either wait or go to a Philadelphia pawn shop to purchase it at a better price then the fancy retail stores.

Gold manufacturers are having a tough time right now with gold high prices, lack of credit from banks, the economy and the downward demand is putting a lot of pressure on gold producers.  Add to the equation the hundreds of cash for gold companies and pawn shops, and gold manufacturers are weathering a perfect storm.

Some gold manufacturers are coping by introducing sterling silver as the new gold or combining more sterling silver with gold to reduce their margins instead of raising their prices.  They also reduce inventory and carry costs to improve supply chain efficiency; managing business and expenses more carefully; and seek new revenue opportunities like line extensions.

Jewelry retailers are having the toughest time of all even after reducing prices for the holiday season; they simply decrease their purchases and keep less stock on hand which means less of a selection for shoppers.

Even though there are new designs and gold is still fashionable, small retail outlet remain cautious and more selective leaning toward lighter pieces and prices that resemble higher-end items.

Beach towels can be used for a multitude of purposes and not just for drying off after a dip in the ocean or lying on the beach sunbathing. Beach towels could be used instead of baby blankets when swaddling babies who were a few weeks older and have outgrown the smaller square baby blankets meant for the newborns.  Beach towels are usually rectangular shaped and work nicely holding a month or so old baby.

Pink beach towels work perfect for baby girls and blue beach towels are nice to swaddle baby boys in.  However using beach towels for babies is not the only thing beach towels are good for; beach towels are great for placing on a picnic table to use as a super absorbent tablecloth, especially when young kids tend to spill their juices and a vinyl tablecloth does nothing but allow the spill to sit in a puddle or run down the sides of the table.

A beach towel could also be the perfect exercise “buddy” in that it is inexpensive, versatile and everyone seems to have one.  To improve your posture and strengthen and tone your shoulders and upper back muscles, take the beach towel and hold it in front of your body with elbows out and forearms at a 90 degree angle. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold for five seconds, repeating 10 times.

To condition your ab muscles, butt and thighs, in addition to promoting stability and balance use a beach towel. Begin by standing with your right foot on the towel and your body weight on your left foot; slide your right foot to the back and to the side.  Repeat this on the other foot about 12 times per foot.  To add an element of difficulty to this exercise, try doing it at the beach in the sand.
